What is Instructor Training?
Instructor training prepares you for the DVSA’s three-part qualification process. This includes an advanced theory test (Part 1), a high-standard driving test (Part 2), and a test of your teaching ability (Part 3). You’ll learn advanced driving techniques as well as crucial skills in communication, lesson planning, and adapting to different learners.
Why Train as an Instructor?
Becoming a driving instructor offers immense job satisfaction, helping people gain a vital life skill. It provides flexibility to set your own hours and the opportunity to be your own boss. There’s a consistent demand for skilled instructors, and the training also enhances your own road safety knowledge and teaching abilities, providing valuable skills for life.
Choosing Your Training Course
Select a course with DVSA-approved trainers who have a proven track record. Look for comprehensive programs covering all three parts of the ADI qualification, including theoretical support and practical in-car training. Many trainees also benefit from learning driving techniques hands-on, such as manual driving lessons in Darwen, which help build the advanced skills required for Part 2 and Part 3. Ensure the course offers flexible scheduling and ongoing support, such as mock tests and post-qualification advice, to maximize your chances of success.
What to Expect During Training
During instructor training, you’ll prepare for Part 1 theory, refine your driving for Part 2, and most importantly, learn how to teach effectively for Part 3. Expect extensive practical training, mock tests, and continuous feedback from your instructor. Many courses also allow real-world experience as a ‘Trainee Driving Instructor’ (PDI) before your final Part 3 exam, helping you transition smoothly into a fully qualified ADI.
